Voltage Regulator Circuit for High Current Rated Loads (3A)

Some ELV projects require higher current than usual 500mA~1A rating.
(Eg : Servo motor control and multiple GSM module interacting with Arduino)

This is a LM2596 5.0 voltage regulator circuit with high efficiency and high current output than previously used LM7805 IC.

Respectively ,by using LM2596 12.0 IC You can get regulated 12VDC output from a unregulated 7-40VDC supply.

In this project we have considered how to get regulated 5VDC,3A output from unregulated 12VDC supply.

Note: The IC is dissipating energy loss in the form of heat.Hence a good heat sink is required in order to protect the IC from excessive heat.Otherwise the IC will burned out when the load current requirement is high.

Transformer should be enough to supply 3A rating.

The LM2596 IC Specification are as follows:

3-A output load current

Input voltage range up to 40 V

Requires only four external components

Excellent line and load regulation specifications

150-kHz Fixed-frequency internal oscillator

TTL shutdown capability

Low power standby mode, IQ, typically 80 ÂµA

High efficiency

Uses readily available standard inductors

Current-limit protection

For Regulated 5VDC Output :

C1 =  470uF, 25V

C2 = 220uF, 10V

L1 = 33uH

For Regulated 12VDC Output :

C1 = 220uF, 50V

C2 = 100uF, 25V

L1 = 66uH

Safety First !

Always Connect the 230VAC Main supply if you are absolutely sure that the components are connected correctly without changing polarity and short circuited the wiring.

Even if it seems nothing is wrong : DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING !!
