Relay Operated Emergency Light Control
This Simple Project explains how to build a circuit for an emergency lamp system.
We are going to use regulated 5VDC and 12VDC dual voltage power supply for this project.
If you are not sure how to build a regulated voltage supply visit the following link.We have explained in the previous post:
Voltage Regulator Circuit For ELV Projects
When the power is available, the relay will operate and Normally Closed(NC) terminals will be now open. The power supply to emergency lamp will be disconnected.
As soon as the supply power is out, the relay will return to NC position and now the power supply to emergency lamp is connected by completing the circuit.
When the main power is available, the rechargeable battery will be charged by a charge controller unit. This will prevent the battery from over-charging.Hence battery will not be damaged.
This emergency light unit is suitable for domestic or commercial use (Indoor use).
The project can be developed for industrial usage with proper components as required.(using of high power SMD LEDs for illuminating a large area).
Tools & Components
1 X 5VDC Relay Module1 X 5V LED(Set of Parallel Connected SMDs)
1 X Charger Controller
1 X 5V Rechargable Battery
Regulated Voltage Supply(See Here)
Connecting Components
LED (+) wire to Relay COM
LED (-) wire to (-) Battery Terminal
Battery (+) wire Relay NC(Normally Closed)
Regulated 5V (+) Terminal to Relay Vcc And Signal In
(-) Terminal to Relay GND
(+)12VDC Input to Charge Controller Unit IN(+)
(-)12VDC Input to Charge Controller Unit IN(-)
(+) Battery Terminal to Charge Controller Unit BAT(+)
(-) Battery Terminal to Charge Controller Unit BAT(-)
Note : Relay NC means that when no power is applied to the relay coil , the relay NC act as a closed switch.Hence when power is applied it act as a Open Switch(Open Circuit)
Be sure to apply 5VDC to relay coil.Exceeding this value may damage the relay coil and it will malfunction.
Safety First !
Always Connect the power supply if you are absolutely sure that the components are connected correctly without changing polarity and short circuited the wiring.
Even if it seems nothing is wrong : DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING !!Your Feedback is very important to us.
