Voltage Regulator Circuit for ELV Projects

This Simple Project is aimed for crafting a 12V and 5V regulated DC power supply for daily power needs on various equipments. For many DIY projects and other ELV(Extra Low Voltage) Projects, 5V and 12V power sources are frequently used.Other than using 12VDC & 5VDC power supplies independently,it'll be easier to use this voltage regulator.

Tools & Components

 1 X 220/12VAC Transformer

1 X LM7805 IC

4 X 1N4007 Diodes

1 X 25V Capacitor

1 X 10V Capacitor

1 X Heat Sink for LM7805 IC

Connecting Wires

Connecting Components

For the Transformer I've used an 300mA 12V Transformer.

Remember to Connect the heat sink to the LM7805 IC Before power up the circuit.
LM7805 Outputs 5V regulated power and convert the rest to heat energy.
Because of this, once a load is connected to 5VDC terminals the LM7805 IC will raise its temperature very quickly.

Safety First !

Always Connect the 230VAC Main supply if you are absolutely sure that the components are connected correctly without changing polarity and short circuited the wiring.

Even if it seems nothing is wrong : DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING !!

Your Feedback is very important to us.

  1. How come a 12volt ac at secondary after rectifying becomes 12 v DC?
It should be more than 16 volts
